It makes me think of sports awards, which are sponsored by Laureus, which is therefore a company but I've no clue what kind. I suppose their marketing team thought about laurel wreaths and hit upon the sporting link.

I think that using it would result in endless confusion with Lawrence, or indeed Laurence, or indeed Laurent!
