[Opinions] Aphrodisia
What do you think of Aphrodisia? I think the sound is absolutely beautiful, but it might be *too* close to "aphrodisiac." Would little kids be aware of this word? What about a girl in high school with this name - how would she fare? Thanks.

Sounds *waay* too much like aphrodisiac, sorry. I'm not sure about the little kids, but by high school, I'm sure enough kids would have heard of aphrodisiac in order to make fun of the poor child with this name.

I think it would be cruel and unusual punishment to stick on a child... esp. if she grew up to either live up to the sound of her name too much or be the furthest thing from that. Kids' parents would be aware and the kids may overhear the parents talking and soon it would be all over school.

It's definitely too close to aphrodisiac - it's only one letter different. Even if young kids weren't aware of it, all the parents would be and everyone you introduce her to will be thinking "aphrodisiac!?".Also, while it might not be a massive problem in primary school, I think it would definitely become a problem during the teenage years and as an adult.

I think it's a bit too much. Not just because it may cause giggles and teasing, but because it's so long and elaborate. I generally prefer names with two or three syllables, so five is really pushing it.

It's not just close to the word aphrodisiac. It practically is the same as the word aphrodisiac. Doesn't matter what kids are aware of - if that were my name I'd be grossed out and want to change it. What do you tell her when she's about ten and is asked to do a "what my name means" presentation in school? Um... well dear, it means eagerness to do the hokey pokey.

Apparently your version of "the hokey pokey" has verses in it that I don't do in that song when I teach En. lessons.

I don't know if little kids would be aware of aphrodisiac, but if my niece or nephew came home and said they have a classmate named Aphrodisia, I'm sure they'd find out sooner than the average kid. It runs the risk of sexual harassment to me.

Aphrodisia means "a desire for heterosexual intimacy" I would not name a child this, the word Aphrodisiac stems from this word.

I automatically thought of "aphrodisiac." It sounds pretty, but it's too sensual. I don't think it works well in real life. I doubt that most little kids would be aware of the word "aphrodisiac", but by high school, I bet they would.

I don't know whether she would be teased in grade school, but she would definitely be teased in high school. Someone who carries this name would need a lot of confidence.
