[Opinions] My sister's name
in reply to a message by Lily
My sister is Ali and I know others who go by Ali/Ally/Allie too.- A 19 year old named Alexandrea I know goes by Ali. Her parents picked the nickname because it was easy for her to learn to spell when she was little. - My sister is 16 years old and her name is Ali, just Ali. My parent's originially were going to name her Alison but when she was born my grandma said she was going to nickname her Ali and my parents thought that was so cute that they would just name her that. A lot of people ask what it is short for and normally they assume Alison or Alice but we just say no, just Ali and it isn't a big deal. Many times it is mispelled though. Never has anyone ever confused her name with the guys name Ali. I've never met an guy Ali so the name is so feminine to me.- I know a girl around 9 or 10 that is called Ally. I think that is how they spell it. I don't know her well and I don't know what it is short for but I want to say Alexandra.- I girl that lives around the corner is named Alexis and is occassionally called Ally/Allie/Ali - not sure how to spell it as it is mostly just spoken, written is usually Alexis. - My sister has a friend whose sister named Alison and is called Ali. She's around 12.So I definitely can see it as a full name. I don't think it will be confused with the male Ali. I don't think it is dated nickname as everyone I know is under 20. While I listed many Ali/Allie/Allys I don't consider it common at all as everyone has a different spelling or full name and some of these girls are rarely called by the nickname.I think Alison or Allison is fine. I wish my parent's would have gone with it and given her a full name. It just seems better to have a full name imo. I've also seen it spelled Alyson and nicknamed Aly. So that can be an option.Other ideas it could be a nickname for are Alice, Alicia, Alexa, Alberta, Alena, Alessandra, Alexis, Alexia, Aliya, and Alyssa.

Yeah I imagine Ali would be a lot easier to spell than Alexandrea. I like Alexandria a lot but took it off my list because a) people always thought it was Alexandra when they gave it a quick look, b) people would ALWAYS call her by a nickname anyway and c) I hate most nicknames you can get from it except for Ally and Ali.Alice nn Ali is a good idea as well. Thanks for your answer :)
