I know two girls named Allie. One is short for Allegra and one is short for Alexandra. Oh, and I also know an Alexandra "Ali". They're all around 20 or 21.
I don't much care for the spelling Ally, as it reminds me of the word alley. I really like Allie as a nickname, though, and don't think it's dated in any spelling. It's definitely way too cutesy as a given name. My favorite full names are Alexandra, Allegra, Alina, Alexandrine, and Alice.
I like Alison a lot, but don't care for Allison at all.
