After a difficult start Annika and Niklas settled quite nicely into their new life in Australia. They had rented a small home and both had jobs. Annika worked as a waitress, helped at a local animal shelter and planned to become a vet one day. At first Niklas had difficulties to hold a job, but after finding out he was going to become a father, he settled into one job. Finding out about her pregnancy made Annika homesick and she became a little depressed as she missed her family in Sweden. It didn't help her homesickness when she found out that her twin sister Lena had got engaged and the wedding was going to be around the same time as her due date so she couldn't fly to Sweden to attend the wedding. The homesickness was forgotten when Annika gave birth to a daughter. Annika and Niklas named her Astrid Lena as they wanted to honor Annika's twin sister.
