I think Valerie is pretty. I don't think Val is so bad, either. Melanie is okay, but it was quite popular here in the 70s and 80s and it's looking limp to me.
Melody seems ultra-ditzy to me, despite its history. It doesn't go with the other two; it's in a special box with Harmony and Cadence and Aria and Poem and other such names of dippiness.
