Help[Opinions] Opinion about Dutch girl name
I love the name Saskia, but my husband thinks that children here (America) would make fun of that name. Of course, some children will always find something to make fun of in other children, but would Saskia make a girl an easier target?

I know a girl with this name...
I think it's beautiful and I don't think it's too strange for American kids to handle. Although, the girl I know lives in NYC and Saskia is far from the strangest name there lol.

I'm not totally fond of the name, but I like it to the extent that I ewill say that its sort of pretty. I think they will make fun of it.

Whenever I hear the name Saskia I think about this awesome music video that Charlie made for Ben Folds's song "Saskia Hamilton"

I don't think Saskia would lead to teasing at all. It's not hard to pronounce or spell - pretty intuitive, and it doesn't have any weird sounds or sound like a rude word or anything. I think Saskia is a great name

Closest word someone could get out of that would maybe be sass or sassy and that can be taken as good or bad depending on the context.

I don't think so. It's a pretty name, so if anything, the other girls will give her compliments. I know I would have if I met a Saskia as a kid.

Saskia is very pretty. It's fairly common where I live, so I can't make a qualified statement on whether it's too rare in America to use. However, judging from the many posters on these boards who seem to love the name Saskia (this is not the first time it is brought up) I can't imagine Saskia being obvious teasing material there ;)

I have a Californian cousin called Saskia. I don't think her name has ever been made fun of. I love the name too.

I don't see any teasing potential what forever in Saskia, I wonder what he sees as teasing potential?
I also think that kids are growing up with all sorts of names these days, the top 100 is more diverse (and ahem questionable :P) than ever, so I really don't think kids growing up in the next ten years will get stick for having unusual names.

More and more children have foreign names or completely made up names. When I volunteer at school or when we get new Girl Scouts in our troop, I always ask the children to spell their name or make sure I have the forms with me so I can make sure I know and can spell their names.
Besides, 2 of our 3 other kids have foreign and unusual names and so far have never been teased about their name. The only problem is that they have to spell their name quite often, but oh well.

Aw, I can't imagine Saskia being teased for her name. It's so beautiful. I doubt there will be a problem; my father actually had a classmate named Saskia back in the seventies.

I like Saskia! I don't see anything about it that would be make-fun-able. Unless I'm missing an obvious pun or something.. I think they'll just think it's a name. It's unusual here, sure, but most young children don't know which names are and aren't common, so if they know someone with that name they'll just see it as another name.

I don't recall the Saskia I knew in school having much problem with it... only 1 I ever met.
