[Opinions] Re: Margot or Margo? *edited*
I live on the West coast. I had a Margot in my class through middle school and high school. My younger sister also had a Margot in her class in middle school but she often went by her mn.In the movie Christmas Vacation there is a character named Margot. I've always known how to spell and say this name since I was fairly young. But I do feel it is a bit pretentious.Margot and Glenys / Glynis / Glenis / Glennys / Glynnis / Glennis feel pretentious to me. I also feel like they'd make a good sibset. In my school they were good friends. Margot, Glynnis, Peggy and Raquel always hung out together since middle school. They were all the type of kids who did really well in school, though they started to slack off a bit senior year. They were smart kid type of pretentious, though only Julia and Peggy were really good at math. Julia and Peggy and sometimes Glynnis would have their noses stuck up high in the air, but only in middle school. Julia left after middle school. Peggy stopped sticking her nose up at others. Glynnis was always more of an artist type of pretentious. In high school they were the closest thing to a cool crowd in my class. Senior year Peggy, Margot, Glynnis, Raquel, Sonja, Alaina, Cambria, Liam and Rob would always be hanging out together during their free period in the parking lot. Everyone in my senior class would often hang out. We were all nice people. Though Ali wasn't welcome since no one liked her. My partner and I started hanging out with her sophmore year since Ali had similar interests and was new to the school. But after realizing that most of the time she was rude and uncaring of others and very emotionally needy we stayed friends with her only because we didn't want to hurt her feelings. We were the only kids in our class who would hang out with Ali. Some of the freshmen really liked her. She dated a freshman in senior year.I got off track. That often happens, especially when I don't sleep. :PI have never been fond of the sound of Margot. Probably because of the movie Chirstmas Vacation. But I think American's know that the t at the end of french words is silent as well as the s. That's why Illinois is pronounced without the s. Most people think it is purely a French word but it is an American Indian word that the French put into their own language.I prefer the spelling Margot. The spelling Margo makes me think of Mr. Magoo. Also it just doesn't feel right. I like the pretention of Margot.
