Perfectly acceptable? I wouldn't use it. I wouldn't encourage it. It feels feminine to me, but I don't think it'd be an embarrassment for a boy. His parents' friends might find it a bit laughable, but I think his peers wouldn't even notice.
I've thought about Larkin for a boy lately. Seems a little more masculine.
