1120- Shortly after arriving in the Venetian quarter of Constantinople, the new emperor, John II, canceled the exclusive trade agreement with Venice and ordered all Venetians to leave the city. Forced to return home to the Veneto, Maria Francesca was happy to have her sisters and mother present to support her during the birth of Fiorenza. Following the birth, Maria Francesca made a pilgrimage to the church of San Giacometto to give thanks for a safe delivery. There she experienced a vision of the crucifixion. This spiritual experience left her with the desire to give up her worldly life and join a convent. Antonio agreed to let her join as soon as Fiorenza is weaned. He was so inspired by his wife's passion that he also planned to retire to a convent and become a monk when the last of his children is raised and independent.
