After two years, Queen Alda gave birth to healthy Princess Cassandra. Members of the kingdom are thankful for another baby, though King James worries he may not have a son. Soon after, the kingdom again rejoices at the marriage of Prince Tristan Alexander Yannick (26) to a noblewoman named Annette Jane Marie (15). King James has also been debating for a while on the country's military. He would like to make it required for men to join for a certain amount of time. However, he worries the people will not like this. His brother Tristan, however, edges him to do it, and he trusts his brother's judgement. Now, all men must join the military from the time they are 21 until they are 40, with some exceptions. Most people are angry with this law, but King James wants his kingdom and family safe.

Everyone in the kingdom celebrated in some way. At least one of the baby's names honors the former queen and one honors the current one. They named their daughter Nicolette Conigund Marie, Nicolette because they like that name, Conigund for Alda, and Marie after James's deceased mother, Queeen Mary Marie Maria (her parents weren't very creative).

Many of the people were worried about King James, as his political skills were not good, and almost would have preferred Prince Tristan, only age 23, who has long been a prodigy at politics, athletics, language, and science, and excellent with people. Shortly after coronation, King James marries a noblewomen named Alda, whom he knew from royal parties and things. The kingdom falls in love with Queen Alda, as she is both kind and helpful. Their land is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and to the south is a sea. The center of the country is very fertile. Their main exports are fruits, vegatables, and livestock. The time period is similar to the 1700s Europe. King James has almost total power, though their family has long since given the people a lot of freedom. King James has two brothers, Tristan (23), Gautier (15), and a sister, Mary III (13). He also has two first cousins, Reine (18) and Alphonse (20).
