[Opinions] Octavia
I've had Octavia rolling around in my head today. What do you think of it? I really like it; my only issue is that it's not easy to nickname. But this isn't for a real child, so I guess that doesn't matter too much. I feel like Octavia is the kind of name that can sort of mesh with a few different styles. For instance, I think Octavia would make a good sibling to either Susanna or January. Do you agree? Disagree? And finally, how would you complete this sibling set?:
January Claudine

Ottavia nn OttyMy best friend is Italian, and one of her friends is called Ottavia nn Otty. I think it's adorable and a lot softer than Octavia

I do not care for Octavia. I cannot shake the association of the first wife of Emperor Nero, a notorious persecutor of Christians, rendering the name unusable for me (though I am sure this only sharpens its appeal to some posters on here). But even without that association, I think it is an ugly name with ugly sounds. I don't like the sound "ahk". It reminds me of my great-grandmother's name, Akhtar (actually it's Akhtarmoluk), a name I have always considered outrageous.

I'm madly in love with Octavia. About a year ago, a friend and I were walking and passed a street by the name of Octavia. When he said it aloud, I liked it even more. I don't encounter the name very often aside from on this board, so I was kind of taken aback by its beauty when I heard it actually spoken by someone else even though I knew how it was pronounced prior to that. I think that Octavia would work with Susanna and January, especially January because it's another unexpected name. January Claudine is beautiful.I agree that nicknames can be a bit difficult when it comes to Octavia. I'd use Tavia and perhaps Tavi on occasion.Combos:
Octavia Simone
Octavia Pearl
Octavia Margot / Margo
Octavia Laure
Octavia Helen
Octavia Colette
Octavia Judith
Octavia Magdalene
Octavia Saffron
Octavia Maren
Octavia Winter
Octavia Opal
Octavia Lisette
Octavia Bernadette - Long as heck, but I like them paired together.

Octavia Corinne
Octavia Giselle

Octavia Fleur
Octavia Florence
Octavia Bernice
Octavia Berenice
Octavia Constance
Octavia Clementine
Octavia Clemence
Octavia Gwen
Octavia Bridget
Octavia Brigitte
Octavia Lucille
Octavia LucienneOctavia Delphine and Octavia Justine came to mind as well, but Delphine and Justine are a bit too close to Claudine for my liking.

Octavia is strong and fearless, in my mind. I think it's interesting and engaging without being overly "out-there." It's pleasantly sharp and pointy and I agree that it can work well with multiple styles.

I really enjoy Octavia. It's so rich and palatable, like a tart-sweet dessert. I agree with you that Octavia has a nice collection of attributes that could help it mesh well with a variety of styles. It's ancient, it's formal, it's offbeat. Hmm, I'd pair January Claudine with:Octavia Phoebe
Octavia Bess
Octavia Poppy
Octavia Fern
Octavia Joyce
Octavia Julie
Octavia Posy
Octavia Margaux
Octavia Dido
Octavia LisetteAnything good in there?

I like Octavia Lisette. My favorite nn for Octavia would be Via. Although I LOVE January, if you named siblings January and Octavia you would have two month names, maybe not the best imo.

Octavia is a month name?I know Octavia and October are from the same root word, but I wouldn't consider Octavia a month name.

I like it. It's spunky and original. And Tavi or Tavia could could be used as a nickname.
I agree with you about fitting into different styles. Maybe it can fit with more familiar names because of its similarity to names like Olivia? I don't know.
I'd say:
January Claudine
Octavia Cosette

I like Octavia. I think it can mesh with different styles, but any sibling names would have to be intense. January has a bit of intensity to it, but not Susanna IMO. Octavia is beautiful, strong and intense, and it needs sibling names that it won't readily overpower. January Claudine and Octavia Alcyone?
