Charlotte and Nicklas have endured much loss in their young lives. Charlotte first lost her mother and Nicklas lost his father nearly five years ago. After Charlotte found out she was pregnant for a fourth time, the unexpected death of her father, who was always so healthy, caused her to become ill herself. She was put on bedrest for her pregnancy, but it was of no use. Between the passing of her father and the stress that came with starting her own university, she miscarried into her fifth month of pregnancy. Though the child was never introduced to this world, it reminded Charlotte of her mother's passing. She distanced herself from everyone in court for months, especially Nicklas and her children. The university project was put on hold. Nicklas was the one to see to the various problems that arose, not the queen. Everyone could see how badly the king was taking the loss, not only of another child, but of his queen. Nobles and commoners alike felt the king's pain, and hoped that Queen Charlotte would come out of her mourning soon, for not only her king's sake, but for the sake of Weshbun. Everyone knew that there were brigades of men going through the countries north of Weshbun, stealing their possessions and burning their land. Though a peaceful nation, Weshbun needed to remain a united front, starting their their king and queen.
The citizens of Weshbun breathed a sigh of relief when, just a fortnight after the queen's miscarriage, Queen Charlotte and King Nicklas were seen out and about in the royal gardens, were townsfolk were allowed to wonder as well. Those that were in the garden that day attested to how radiant and healthy the queen looked, surrounded by her three children and her adoring husband. Crown Princess Annika, the anonymous man noted, was already falling into her birth role, gently bossing around her younger brother and sister as best she could. Princess Claudia was always trying to pick roses, and Prince William was often trying to mimic his father. The reports of the family's outing eventually reached the royal couple, but they were not angry or upset. The next day they held a hearing for those that were around, stating that work on the university would begin once again, as would Queen Charlotte again be holding court.
Queen Charlotte announced her fifth pregnancy amongst rumors of an incoming band of robbers that were making their way south into Weshbun. Nicklas, though worried about Charlotte's pregnancy, though the doctors have declared her extremely healthy and fit to carry a baby to full term, has started rallying up the considerable Weshian army to fit off the possible invaders. Because of this, he has left her in Weshbun with her younger sister and brothers, as well as the many trusted court officials. During her final months of pregnancy, Charlotte was under extreme stress with Nicklas being away and the citizens protesting the continuation of the university plans. Charlotte ended up giving birth to a beautiful, healthy daughter a month before she was supposed to deliver. Charlotte named her daughter after her grandmother, sister and Nicklas' mother.
