[Opinions] Eva vs Ava
I am drawn to Ava but I have a sneaky feeling that Ava may be (or become) slightly faddish? Ava feels very similar to Emma for me, but Emma has a somewhat more timeless feel, perhaps due to royal connections. I may be way off base here. I suspect both are very popular; I have met babies Ava (2) and Emma (1) in the past few months...
So that brings me to Eva! Pretty, short, easily spelled. I pronounce it EE-vah, but I understand it can be pronounced "Ava" although I wouldn't try this, personally...
Is Eva somehow prettier, does it offer two nicknames (Eve and Evie) and is it less common or faddish than Ava or am I off in the rhubarb again?
Oh -- and does Katharine kick both their butts to the curb or is Katharine too boring?
Also under consideration, Genevieve Katharine, with the nickname Eve, Evie.
Thanks,
Beth.

My sister is named Eva and she's never been nicknamed Eve or Evie. Eva is also less common then Ava (but not by much). I meet a ton of Ava toddlers and babies every month and it's so annoying. And Eva kicks Katharine's butt any day. It's so boring and conventional.
I think Ava and Emma are both very popular. Eva is very pretty, less common, but not hard to spell or anything - it's definitely recognisable. I think most people would say EE-va.
Eva Katherine would be a lovely name, and Genevieve Katherine is fantastic too! I love Eve and Evie as nicknames.
Have you considered Eve just as a name on it's own. It's my favourite name.

just Eve
I would, but the surname is one syllable and dull. I love the sound Eve, Yves... sigh

Off in the rhubarb?? That's an amazing saying! Is that even a real thing or did you make it up?
Ava feels very faddish to me. Much more so than Emma. It feels like Emma has a much longer history and is used in many more languages than Ava, which has only become super-popular recently. For me, Ava is in a group with the -ayden boys and and -aylee girls. An explosive but passing trend.
Eva also has a long history and is used in many languages. Of the three (Eva, Ava, Emma) this would be my choice. Plus Eve and Evie are delightful.
Katharine versus Eva...Do I have to choose? I think they would make very nice sisters. Classic and timeless.
Genevieve Katharine is very very nice as well. Personally, GEnevieve is not really my style, but I can definitely see the appeal of Genevieve nickanme Eve/Evie. Some good options there!

off in the rhubarb
Ah -- the saying 'off in the rhubarb' is something I picked up once when throwing around a baseball -- if it was hit off line -- it was out in the rhubarb. Cute, eh?
I agree completely w/ your sentiments about Emma (classic) and Ava being a bit too trendy.
I can't choose between katharine and eva. Or Katharine and Elise (which is where I am today). Tough.

Ava is a little bit faddish, but also classic. I guess it's classic-faddish (like Emma and Grace, etc.)
I love Eva! I pronounce it AY-va, although I also like EE-va. I think it looks a little nicer and is less faddish and less likely to become dated/trendy.
I don't like Katharine. I like Katherine, but I'd still say Eva is way better than Katherine.
Genevieve Katharine isn't bad. It's a bit diva-ish but not in an OTT way. I'd prefer just Eva "Eve/"Evie" or Eve "Evie" though.

Ah! Thanks. Those are interesting perceptions on Eva. I, too, feel it is quite pretty and classic. I am interested in the two pronunciations, too.
I think Genevieve has the potential to feel a bit, umm... a bit... err. Trendy? I know it isn't, but it's a tiny bit floofy. Just ever, ever, EVER so slightly. I love the name, despite this.
