I think Donatien is really glammy.

I like it, I think it has a cool Roman thing going on, but it sounds like it could be modern. It makes it fit better with a wider variety of names but still keep that historical toga-wearing feel.

Kinda ugly... and on first sight, one might miss the 2nd a and just see Gratin... which would make it not just ugly, but cheesy as well. At least the meaning is good... That and the fact that it's not overused are its 2 redeeming qualities... and the fact that it doesn't have quite the same level of annoying preppy feel as Grayson I guess would be another point in its favour... still not really liking it.

When I saw the title of this post, I thought yay! I love this name, though it doesn't seem to appeal to that many people for some reason..

The meaning is excellent.

I agree with Annie. I do like the Roman connection, but not enough to overcome the name's pronunciation and resemblance to "ingratiating." I'd go with Grayson or another strong Roman name, like Hadrian or Domitian.

I sort of agree with Annie, on paper it does look a little weird.
But if I met a boy or man named Gratian in real life, I'd have an impression similar to the impression I get from names like Gideon and Grant ... sort of heroicly, formally virile. I think it's a good name, although not exactly my style. It could grow on me.
At any rate, the name Gratian stomps on the name Grayson.
