[Opinions] Realistic?
I've been watching the anime "Black Butler" recently. The main characters are a demon butler named Sebastian and a boy named Ciel. It's set in Victorian era London. I was wondering if there have actually been any significant usages of Ciel on a boy, in Britain or otherwise. Also, WDYT of Sebastian and Ciel-on-a-boy?

I don't think that Ciel seems very realistic for a boy in Victoria era London, but Sebastian doesn't really seem out of place. It works well for a butler.I like Ciel, but I prefer it for girls.

Sebastian makes a good name for a villain. There's something very moustache-twirling about it.I just looked up Ciel for you and I think it's unlikely there was any usage here. There were actually a couple of entries for it on UK Ancestry, but checking the actual General Register Office data, it looks like they're all mistranscriptions for Cecil. Nothing on INSEE (the French civil registration database) either.Might have to check out this anime! :)

It's a masculine word so it makes more sense to use it on a boy. I dislike Sebastian. Ciel is fine. I doubt it was used often back then. But you never know, there could have been one.

I love black butler! Unfortunately I don't think Ciel is even that realistic on a girl since its not technically a name (or it isn't in France even though it's French) so I definitely can't see it on a boy.

I've never understood why Ciel is a feminine name. It looks masculine, it sounds masculine. It is a masculine word in French. I can't really see it as a girl name. I do like it for a boy though and I think it's usable as a boy name too. Sebastian is bland and kind of wimpy. Not a favorite of mine.

I checked the US SSA data every 10 years, and the only times Ciel appears on a boy are 5 born in 2010. For girls there were 5 in 2000 and 10 in 2010.I like the idea of Ciel on a boy. It's such a calming sky-blue, and I think it goes well with Sebastian.

Sebastian is nms but it's ok. Ciel is sky in French, it sounds more feminine to me, but I kinda like it.
