I had a prissy, aggravating classmate Hobart "Hobie" when I was in college so if the name might have had any charm, it's all lost on me.It's kind of cute in a silly way, but I don't think I'd want to be a grown man called Hobie.

There used to be a line of (I think surfer) clothing called Hobie when I was very little. I had a t-shirt.eta+ Never mind, they still exist!

I guess his parents didn't want the word/sound 'toe' to be in his name.

so they went with 'hoe'...

Maybe someone had a foot phobia and 'hoe' was the best option?

Always liked it. But Hobie needs to be a nickname for something. I don't know, maybe Hobart as a place name? Or Howard? Also on Baywatch this was the name of the son of David Hasselhoff.

Hobart......I actually like it better than Hobie.
