[Opinions] Challenge, finding full names for nicknames and spelling survey
Do you love any nicknames but can't find a full name for them that you love enough to put on a birth certificate? I have that problem. So I thought we could all list our nicknames, and don't forget to list the names you have already considered as full names. Then people can try to help you by finding new full names, maybe even some that aren't in the database. Also say which full names you kind of like but aren't sure about. People can tell you what is great about them and you might appreciate them more! Also you can add a spelling survey like I did. Answer to my post and those of the others. Have fun.AllyKind of like: Alyssia but have gotten negative feedback. Too trendy etcI know there are a billion of other Al-names but none I like. I have considered all the common options like all Alex-names, Alison, Alice, Alana, Allegra, Alia and the like. So if you know of any more unusual Al-names that I might like, maybe some that aren't in the database, suggest them pleasePennyKind of like: Aspen nn Penny but most people don't make the connection between the two names. Love Aspen and Penny but Aspen nn Penny seems to confuse people.Considered: Penelope, Peninnah, Penn, PenCharlieKind of like: Charlene, but people tell me it's trashy
Considered: Charlotte, Carlotta, Carla, Charlize, Charlena, Charlotta, Charline, Charla. JessieKind of like: Jessamine but not sure about it
Considered: Jessa, Jessica, Jessamy, Jesslyn, Jessabel, Jessabella
General question:Do you prefer word names with an E on the end or do you prefer the original spelling? I usually prefer the original spelling but people have told me that the names are not name-y enough that way and that I should add an E. But I sometimes think that word names look misspelled when you attach an E. Opinions? In particular (all girls):Brook or Brooke?
Rain or Raine?
Sky or Skye?Oh and does anyone know why it is popular to change spellings, especially attaching the E, to nature names but not to other word names? For example Skye is more common than Sky, Brooke is more common than Brook but people hardly ever use something like Faithe or Grayce. Just wondering. Please rate (0 is the lowest, 10 is the best) and comment if you have time:Aquinnah
Estella
Emmeline (-line)
Shea (SHAY)
Cleo
Sky,e
Brook,e
Rain,e
Keeley, Keely

For yours:Ally - I really like Allegra. I would also suggest Alexandra / Alessandra / Alejandra.
Penny - Penelope is my favorite. Maybe Penarwan (character in Triads of the Island of Britain)?
Charlie - Charlotte is my favorite. I don't really have any other suggestions for this one.
Jessie - Jessica, Jessa and Jessamine are my favorites. I have a cousin named Jessina "Jessie".I don't have a rule of thumb on word names. From your example, I prefer Brooke, Rain and Sky.Aquinnah - 5 - I have issues trying to pronounce it.
Estella - 9 - I love it, but slightly prefer Estelle.
Emmeline - 10 - Perfect!
Shea - 7 - It's nice enough.
Cleo - 7 - Same as above. Also, I know a lady who keeps calling my sister (whose name is Chloe) Cleo.
Sky(e) - 7 - I like it better than Skyler / Skylar, as these are super trendy here.
Brook(e) - 3 - I'm not a fan, negative association.
Rain(e) - 7 - It gives me the impression of calm for some reason.
Keeley / Keely - 3 - Negative association.
Phoebe - 8 - I think it's sweet and sophisticated at the same time.
Esther - 7 - I like it, but some days I feel like it's too old lady.

I love Liselotte for Lottie, and Annora or Honora for Nora!

I like Ally as a nn for Alexa. It could be cute for something like Dalia too, but it's harder to think of names with an "al" sound in the middle off the top of my head. Alyssia bothers me because it feels slippery. Like you might fall off while you're saying it :PI like Penny by itself! Maybe as a nickname for Priscilla? I think it's a nice balance to the, well, prissiness of Priscilla, although I do love the name.Charlie I don't like on a girl. One of those names that I love on a boy and it just makes me sad when it's used on girls. I don't think Charlene is trashy though.I really like Jessamine, nn Jessie. Jessamine classes it up, I think. Other than, maybe Jasmine? I think Jessie would be a better nn than Jazzie, or Jaz.In regard to word names, I tend to just like what I'm most familiar with. So I like Brooke and Skye, but not Raine. I don't really like Rain either, actually, so that might be a bad example. But... when I see/hear Brooke and Skye I think, "oh, the parents liked that name" rather than "oh, the parents wanted a nature name". With Rain/Raine I get the nature name impression either way. Hmm.Aquinnah - 3, it makes me think of Aquafina. Like, "Try Aquinnah, the new Aquafina!"
Estella - 8, I ever so slightly prefer Estelle
Emmeline - 5, I find em-a-line more awkward to say than em-a-leen
Shea - 6, prefer it as a boy's name, but it's alright

I love Jed. I have a cousin and a doctor with this as a full name, so I see it on its own. Maybe Jared.

For Jed, maybe Jarred or some variant thereof?

Ally - I LOVE Alannah with the nickname Ally. I also really like Allegra. Alaia could also work.Penny - for the nickname I like Penelope the best, but Nell is my fave nickname for it. I adore Aspen, but Penny isn't an automatic nickname for it; however, I do think it could work and be a MUCH better nn than something else.Charlie - For this one I like Charlize a ton. I also like Charlotte but prefer the nickname Lottie.Jessie - My fave is Jessamine! Its one of my latest name crushes but will have to remain a gp, I also like the nickname Minnie! My ex fiance's sister is Jessica and goes by Jessie.Interesting question about the -e. I prefer Brooke, Rain, and Skye. I know I like Skye spelt like this for the island, but I'm not sure why I like Brooke with the -e, maybe I'm just used to it.Aquinnah - 8 - loving this! Would you use the nickname Quinn? I adore it :)
Estella - 3 - doesn't do much for me
Emmeline (-line) - 2 - I'm not a fan of any Em- name
Shea (SHAY) - 9 - love, on my middles list
Cleo - 6 - a new gp for me, I also like it spelt Clio.
Sky,e - 8 - love it!
Brook,e -7/8 - I'd really love it if not for it's popularity
Rain,e - 9 - love love love, one of the names I'd totally use in the middle!
Keeley, Keely - 7 - really cute and spunky but I wouldn't use it in real life
Phoebe - 7 - I've loved Phoebe since I first saw Charmed :) Beautiful and mystical
Esther - 3 - see EstellaOverall great names!

(My great grandpa was Wilburn "Bill")Evie - I love Eve, but I'm still not sure. Dislike Evelyn and EvaFrankie - considered Francesca, but I'm not ItalianLola - Lorelei? Or is this one tooo dog-ish?Poppy - considered Penelope and Persephone, unsure which of these work better or if either works.Romy - Romilly is my number one for this nickname, but everyone irl hates itSavvy - Savannah used to be my #1 until the burst of popularity. I still love Savvy though. **Nicknames are really a big deal in my family, so the kid would often be called by their nick. Thanks!

Billie works on its own, in my opinion. How about Willa or Willow, though? Wilhelmine? Wilma? Evie - Evita, Evanna?Frankie - you don't have to be Italian to use Francesca. Frances? Francine?Lola - Dolores? Lola works on its ownPoppy - works on its ownRomy - sameSavvy - hmmm don't know, but I like Savannah

Billie - I love Wilhelmina, but I understand what you mean. Maybe Willow?
Evie - Evangeline is my favorite for Evie. Genevieve would be nice too.
Frankie - I like Francesca. Francine or Frances would be my only other suggestions.
Lola - I love Lorelei! Leopoldine might work.
Poppy - Penelope! It's one of my favorites and I think Poppy is every bit as acceptable as Penny or Nell. Persephone is a good one too. Keeping with the Greek theme, Parthenope could work too.
Romy - I'm not a fan of Romilly, sorry. Maybe Andromache, Andromeda, Romola, Rosamond or Rosemary?
Savvy - Savannah is super popular here too. Savitri?

Ally: Well this I can see has working on its own since my sisters name is Ali – pronounced the same – and not short for anything. Perhaps Alberta, Alessandra, Briallen, Calliope, Callista, Gale, Cally, Hallie, Mallory, Sally, Talia, Valerie, AliannahPenny is one I also can see as working on its own if there is no full name that you like. Penka is the only thing I can really think of. It’s a stretch but maybe Peony.Charlie is hard to find a good one for. I personally love Charlotte but do not like Charlie much. Charmaine, Charnette, Chandler, Chara (pronounced with a hard CH sound)?Jess, Jenessa? Spelling it Jessika? Usually I think word names look more namey and less wordy with an e at the end but yes that is not true with all word names because some of them seem really weird like that. Aquinnah – 2 I’m not entirely sure how to pronounce it but it looks very busy
Estella – 6 It’s pretty nice though it seems a bit dated to me
Emmeline – 6
Shea – 4 but Shay 6
Cleo – 4
Sky,e – 7 I’m okay with both spellings
Brook,e – 7 I prefer it Brooke
Rain,e – 6 I prefer Raine
Keeley, Keely 2, Just seems trendy and too heavy on the e’s
Phoebe – 7
Esther – 2 seems very dated

Ohhh thanks. I really like Chara! I also love Callista and Calista and didn't even think of using Ally as a nickname. Now I worry that people will think I'm a huge Ally McBeal fan, though :P I like the spelling Ali, too. Your sister has a nice name!

I've known an Allyona (Alyona) and an Alastriona who used Ally as a nickname. I like Alastriona in particular, but they are both nice names that aren't common at all. If they're too cultural for you, I suppose you can also use Ally for Alice if that kind of name floats your boat.No new ideas for Penny, Charlie, or Jessie, but I think Penelope, Charlotte, and Jessamine are the best full names for those diminutives. I like Aspen but it would be confusing as a full name for Penny.I prefer word names without an added e on the end. So Brook, Rain, and Sky.Aquinnah - 7.
Estella - 1.
Emmeline - 5.
Shea - 4.
Cleo - 4.
Sky - 4.
Skye - 4.
Brook - 4.
Brooke - 2.
Rain - 4.
Raine - 2.
Keeley - 5.
Keely - 3.
Phoebe - 5.
Esther - 8.

Thanks :) Yeah I guess Jessamine is best for Jessie. It is quite nice after all. Just worried it will always get confused with Jasmine.
