[Opinions] Larisa
Since Larisa is the name of the day and has also been my favorite name for a good 15 years or so, I wanted to ask everyone's opinions on the name. So what do you think of it? I have been planning/hoping to use this as a first name for a daughter since I was a teenager and wish to use Lara as a nickname. What would you pair it with?

I knew a Larissa in uni (prn'd the same way as Larisa) and thought the name quite pretty. Kinda prefer the name w/ the extra s, but not a big issue.
I'd pair it w/ a Jpns. name, but here are some western names for you in case Jpns. isn't your style... Some of these may work better in the opposite order.Janelle

I believe I've expressed my love of Larisa before :-)
But since we adopted a dog named Lara, it's been eliminated from my 'real life' list. At least I get to have a Lara in my life (I would have had to have at least 5 daughters to get to Larisa after all my honoring names). Some combos (since we don't use middle names I never settled on my fave):Larisa Josephine
Larisa Zoe
Larisa Magdalene
Larisa Sophie
Larisa Evangeline
Larisa Georgiana
Larisa Penelope
Larisa Natalie
Larisa Poppy
Larisa Violet
Larisa Beatrice
Larisa Anastasia

I am not fond of Poppy, but I love the rest. I can't use Sophie because we already have a Sophia and Sophie in the family (and I would be shocked if there wasn't one in my boyfriend's gigantic family, haha). I would consider using Josephine (Joseph is a family name), Zoe, Magdalene, Penelope, and Anastasia. I used to hate both Penelope and Anastasia as a kid, but I haven't had them out of my mind for the last 10 years.

I love it, especially with the single s. It's quite lovely, and I think these combos are particularly pleasing:Larisa Caroline
Larisa Catherine
Larisa Frances
Larisa MargaretI will say, as far as female L names go, I'd be more likely to choose Louise.

I love each of those. Catherine/Katherine and Margaret/Margareta are all family names for me, so they are strong contenders for a middle name spot.

loveLarisa is one of those names I've loved forever also. I prefer it spelt like this, I think the Larissa spelling makes it too close to Melissa. I adore Lara as a nickname.Larisa Eve
Larisa Ivy
Larisa Wren
Larisa Quinn
Larisa Morgan
Larisa Margot

I love Larisa Eve. Ivy has been a bit of a GP for me lately.

I have only ever met one Larisa and she spelled it Larissa. I believe her name was Larissa Marie but that was a common MN in the US in the 1980's. I think that with Larisa you need either a one sylable MN or some very distinctive as a middle name. Larisa Claire
Larisa Anne
Larisa Maeve
Larisa Antoinette

I love it.Larisa Fern comes to mind, not sure why - I normally don't like Fern.Larisa Eve

I love the last four. I've never particularly liked Fern. Margaret is Matt's mom's name and also a family name for me, so it is one I am strongly considering as a middle name. The only issue I have with Margaret (and this also applies to Maria) is that it would end up being Lar-Mar-Mar for the beginning sounds.

Like Larisa and love Lara as a nickname

I've never met one or seen it used. My only association is with Dr Zhivago, and there I had always assumed it had a double -ss-: Larissa. Perhaps I was just confused by names like Melissa, or there might be an issue with Russian pronunciation or intonation?I prefer Laura to Lara, but I don't mind Lara at all. Larisa probably needs a mn that makes a statement - either something firmly Russian like Feodora or something firmly English like Clare or something with a foot in both camps, like Stacey instead of Anastasia.
