[Opinions] Rufus
I'm revisiting Rufus right now. What do you all think of it? Is the fact that it rhymes with 'doofus' a big issue? Would it lead to teasing or is it clunky in a wearable way?

I love Rufus!
I didnt thought of the doofus issue before... but i dont think it's a big deal...
maybe as a mn if it bothers you to much!?

I like it in theory, but I worry about the many, many ways to tease this name and so probably would only ever consider it as a mn.
I know any name is teasable but some names it's just too easy and I think this is one of them.

Feels more like a dog name than a person name in the fn position. Fine as a surname though.
I don't think this one will ever become a human name for me. It's sadly stuck in the dog realm.
I think of the movie Never Been Kissed whenever I hear Rufus. They try to use as slang to mean 'awesome'.
Wow did I ever forget about that!
I love the name Rufus and while it does rhyme with "doofus" that doesn't bother me! I think it's such a handsome name, that is highly under-rated imo. A lot of people will probably say it's a dog's name too, but that also wouldn't stop me from using it, as there are so many human names on animals these days!
I don't like it. I don't get all the love for Rufus on this board.
Yup, some names are like that. I don't get all the love for Freya.
doofus and goofus...
And also a name for a big, noisy gallumphing dog. My mother has a neighbor with a dog just like that, and his name is Rufus.
It sounds like a dog's bark so I consider it a dog's name. On a person it sounds very Deliverance.

I had a boss named Rufus. The "doofus" thing never occurred to me. I don't care for the name because it reminds me too much of a barking dog (woof/roof!). I should like it because of "William Rufus." Normally anything with a historic reference is enough to give it at least a pass. Sadly, I've just never been able to warm to it.
I absolutely adore Rufus! I've never linked it to doofus.
Hmm, never considered that it rhymes with doofus! I don't think it would be a terribly big issue. I'm sure kids would grab onto that, but it would stop when he got a little older. That aside I think it would be a little hard of a name to bear in the US. It would take the right kind of person to wear it. I think if you loved it enough I'd say use it but give an easier middle name as back-up.
That said, I do like Rufus because I love rufous-sided towhees. It's a nice association.
