I know an Audie, just Audie, no nn. He's a boy. Like Audie Murphy.
As for longer names to shorten, for a boy Auden comes to mind (I guess you could use this for a girl, too. i think of it as a boy's name)for a girl Audrey is the first I think of

Audie is decent. It's kind of cute, but it doesn't really wow me. I automatically think of the word "odd", so it seems like it would be easy to tease. Oddness doesn't bother me, but a child named Audie might not like being called "odd."When it's pronounced OW-dee, it makes me think of an Audi.Audie could be a nickname for:Audrey
Audra
Maude / Maud
Claudia
Claudine
ClaudetteClaude
Claudio
Claudius
Auden

Thanks to all! There were a few names I really like (e.g. Ichabod, Auden and Audio), but nothing rip into my heart like Audie does. But man... it is really (too) nicknamey! ;)

Audie Murphy was a screen cowboy, I think, but what if anything it was short for, I don't know. For a girl, Audrey. We don't use Audra at all in South Africa, and Audrey has a faded, elderly and downmarket image.

reading just Audie makes me want to pronounce it really awkwardly, "OW-dee," like the car company.I like Audie ok as a NN but only for a boy. I really like Audo (variant of Otto). It could also work for...Audra
Audrey
Audriana
Audrina
Maude
Ottilie / Ottiline
Claudia
Claudette
Autumn
Claude
Ichabod (actually the possibility of nn Audie makes me like Ichabod just a teensy bit more)
Godfrey
Goddard
Rodney
Roderick
Todd
...and maybe?Adele
Adela
Aderyn
Adair

All I can think of are Audis, as in the cars. I guess someone called Audie would be named Audrey, since I can't see it as a masculine name. But I still think of cars more than anything.

I know an Audra...Who is called Audie.

I guess...It could be short for Audrey or Audrina or Audra. Maybe Autumn but that's a big stretch. Audubon? Also a stretch. Auden?I don't like Audie, it sounds like a gooey nn for Audrey.

Without scouring my brain, Audrey is most obvious.I think Audie is adorable, but too nicknamey on its own. My husband had a great-great-aunt named Audie.

I like Autumn nn Autie. Maybe Auden? Audrey? Audrina?

Traditionally,I believe Audie / Auddie was used as a nn for Edward. I've only ever heard the name on a boy, as in the military hero / actor Audie Murphy. But I suppose it could just as easily work for Auden, Edwin, Edgar, Edmund, Abelard, Baldwin / Baudouin, Otto, Archibald, Roderick, Broderick (= brother), Isambard, Adriano, Ardal, Harold, Cadwalader, or Arcady / Arkady.

I'd never heard or thought of Audie as a nickname for Edward before, but that's absolutely adorable.

Agreed! I like that a lot. More than Eddie or Teddy, actually.
