[Opinions] Damaris
I'm really starting to like Damaris. It has the same vibe to me as other names I like, such as Millicent, Tanith, and Drusilla --ladylike, old fashioned and almost dainty, but sharp edged and a little dark at the same time. Plus, I love the -s ending. So, thoughts on Damaris? If you're unfamiliar with it, how do you intuitively pronounce it?

I had assumed it was DAH-muh-riss (I may not have transcribed that as accurately as I could have – "dah" is like "aaah I'm scared", not like "say 'ah'", if that makes any sense), but I recently met a Damaris who pronounced her name duh-MARE-iss. So now I'm not sure.

I kinda like it. Have met one and had a friend who had a sister w/ this name.
Dam-air-is and Dam-ar-is are both options I think... I'll go w/ whichever way the individual says she wants it pron'd.

I'd say DAM-uh-riss. It reminds me of damask roses - pretty and fragrant, with thorns. I found it in a book when I was little, and had a doll Damaris for a while. I'd love to see it used.

It's interesting. It's a name I feel I should like because it seems to fit in very well with some of my favorites, but I still don't quite like it. I pronounce it like da-MAR-iss. I love Drusilla by the way.

I alwats thought it was duh-MARE-is. Which I don't mind.
DAM-er-is sounds awful to me.

I love Damaris. It's one of those, "Oh, yeah. I forgot about that one. Good find." kind of names. :-)At first I thought it was "dah-MAHR-is" or "duh-MEHR-is" until someone on these boards pointed out that it should be "DAM-uh-ris." (*forehead slap*) I've heard "DAM-uh-ris" before so I know that's the true pronunciaiton. I just had never connected it with the spelling Damaris. (*duh*)

I really like Damaris, it's elegant and longer, but it's still pretty snappy. It just sounds powerful despite it's daintiness. I say DAM-uh-riss, but before I knew that was the pronunciation I said dah-MAIR-iss (MAIR rhymes with air).

I like it, have always pronounced it DAM-a-ris. Da-MAR-is is probably prettier, though. Oddly enough, Drusilla is a teen-age name for me, as I've only known one so named, and I met her as an 18-year-old.

Aw. An 18 year old Drusilla makes my morning. Thank you. :-D

I love the look of it. Like the previous poster, I used to think it was pronounced dah - MARE - iss. I LOVE that pronunciation! If it was pronounced that way, it would be very high on my favorites list. However, the *correct* pronunciation does not appeal to me at all.

Until recently I would have pronounced it "da-MARE-iss" but now I know it's "DAM-a-riss." I don't like it now, but I kind of liked it when I didn't know how to say it right.
