Help[Opinions] Fisher and Dove
What do you think of Fisher for a boy? the 'sh' sound would never work with my last name. All names with 'sh' sounds end up coming out mumbled and confused when said with my last name which is a huge bummer to me.
Also WDYT of Dove for a girl? I am really loving it as a middle name lately, and it almost makes up for Jemima being so controversial. My favorite combo is Amelia Dove but I also like Rosemary Dove.

I am not a fan of either. I don't care for that type of boy name- Hunter, Tanner, et al. Plus Fisher has the further drawback of reminding me of the word "fissure".
Friends of ours actually used Dove as a middle name for their daughter last year and it struck both my husband and I as extremely hokey. And I'm usually all for eccentric middle names, but this one just feels off to me. Maybe it's the soap and Prince connotations?

I like quite a few surnames as first names, but Fisher is too surname-y for me. It's not quite like being named Jones or Smith, but I've known enough people with the last name Fisher that it almost seems that way to me.
Dove works well as a middle name. It works as a first name, but I prefer it as a middle name. Rosemary Dove has a great flow. I also like Amelia Dove.

My current boss has a son that is only a few months old named, Fisher, I think it fits in with their other son's name (Carson), and it seems sort of trendy. It's not the worst name I've heard of, but I'm not particularly crazy about Fisher, Miller, and names where I can clearly identify an occupation. I don't dislike all surname-esque names though, usually just those, or ones with political ties (Kennedy, Reagan, etc.).
I think Dove is nice as a middle name, but I do think Paloma, is even better. :) I like Amelia Dove quite a bit.

I think Dove is super sweet and makes a great middle name. There are a pair of doves that nest outside one of my windows. I love watching and listening to them. They're soft and calm, and their beaks are so delicate. I think they're really pretty birds. Thumbs up to Amelia Dove.
Fisher, on the other hand, I'm not crazy about. I think I just wouldn't want fish as part of my name. It's cold and floppy. I did know a Fisher Micah, who must be about 12 now. His parents were missionaries and very religious, and his name was inspired by what Jesus said in Matthew 4:19: Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

I think Fisher is really bad. It combines all the bland trendiness or Carter/Parker etc. with the disadvantages of being named Fish, which he will be called.
Dove is very sweet though. I really like it as a middle name despite the feeling it's a bit cheesy. I also want to like Jemima because I like doves (and pigeons!) but I can't, although it's a bit more common/less stigmatised here in the UK. I like most other dove names though, Aghavni, Colombe, Usoa, Paloma. Amelia Dove is lovely and I like Rosemary Dove even better, it's perfect.

I think Dove is fine. Especially as a middle name - middle names, whatever. I don't particularly like it.
Fisher ... well, it does sound cool, but I think I would not use it unless I was referring to something in particular. A relative or admired person named Fisher, a family history of fishing as livelihood. It doesn't seem as first-namey to me as Hunter does, probably because people aren't called "fishers" but "fishermen."

Love Dove as a middle name. Not sure about as first. I like the idea of it, but have a problem with one syllable first names.
Fisher isn't as cool as Hunter, Archer, etc. Don't know if fish aren't a cool reference. I also know someone with it as a surname, so it just doesn't feel like a first name. And his nickname is Fish, which again, just isn't cool, IMO.

I really do not care for Fisher at all. It sounds way too surnamey.
I don't really like Dove either but I guess it could be okay as a middle name.

They sound like the names of characters in a cheesy fantasy series.
Dove as a middle name is not terrible, but it has the fantasy vibe still. Also I think of soap and ice-cream bars as well as birds when I hear the name Dove. (And as a wise friend has told me, doves are really just pigeons with good PR.)
