I've only ever known one, who was born in 1985, so it doesn't seem 70s dated to me. She spelled it Candice and said she was named after Candice Bergen. I prefer the Candice spelling myself. I don't think Candy is inevitable because she was never called Candy by anyone.
I've always really liked this name, and then one day, I realized that it sounds too close to my own name, Janice, for me to ever use. And the fact that I love Candice and it sounds close to my own name made me realize that I may have really liked my own name if I could go back in time to about 1930, when Janice was still fresh and not dated.
