[Opinions] Teia?
I recently posted about the name Tea or Taya. Someone suggested Teia for spelling and I did like it. What is your opinions on the spelling of Teia? Also, what are your opinions on the name in general. Thank you!

Looks sloppy... Taya is the only spelling I would automatically recognize as proper sp. of the name... Teia just looks like someone's trying to be kre8ive and Tea looks too much like the drink not to be confused for such.

Really? To me Taya looks super creative. Teia reminds me of Theia which is legit and has an awesome meaning. Taya to me looks like it should be TAH-ya or TY-ah and totally made up.

Name-nerd versus notI think this is a case where Teia would seem more legit and logical to the name-nerd and Taya would seem more logical and legit to the real-world. Maybe?

Thing is that Taya actually is used in the real world. Teia just feels and looks awkward to me... and kinda ugly and jumbled like something's not quite right.

No, I don't think so. She wants it to be pronounced TAY-a. Teia looks like Leia which is commonly pronounced LAY-ah. Taya looks like Maya which is pronounced MY-ah or MAH-ya. So Teia wouldn't be mispronounced as often. Apart from that it looks legit, like a slight variant of Theia which has a great meaning, whereas Taya looks made up. I don't have anything against Taya but prefer Teia.

I guess I was thinking that the Theia connection wouldn't really matter to most people, since that's not a name that a lot of people would even have heard of. The Leia connection makes sense though. I would have thought Taya would regularly be assumed to be pronounced TAY-uh, because English has so many words that have the "ay" sound and are spelled that way. :) Like way. And say, bay, day, okay, ray, may, pay, pray, etc.

Or maybe it's case by case...

I agree with you. I think Taya would be much more difficult to live with than Teia. And Teia is pretty, Taya is...not. The pronunciation of Taya is definitely less straightforward than Teia in my opion. And there's Leia who most people are familiar with.

It might be made up at some point, but I've encountered it in a couple completely different contexts (people who likely don't know each other)... It does look like one that could have multiple prn.s, but somehow the i just doesn't look right in there...

Teia is my favorite spelling. I think it's the most clear if you want TAY-uh, like Leia; Taya looks like it should rhyme with Maya, and Tea desperately needs an accent mark in order to not be mistaken for tea. Teia isn't something I'd pick myself, but it's pretty.

I like Teia as opposed to Tea or Taya. It seems easier to say than Tea (because you know there will be those people who simply say "tee") and Taya looks like the more common Maya, and whatever else rhymes with it.I like Teia/Tea/Taya as a nickname, but not a first name. It seems hard to find combos that have a good flow. (For me, anyway. I'm sure you could do it!)

I really like Teia. It's pretty and I prefer it to both Tea and Taya. It's the best spelling in my opinion.

I think it was me and I like it ;) I also really like Theia and prefer it to Teia. It just looks more complete. I know some might say THAY-a for Theia but it's so uncommon that I think you could use any pronunciation for it. Teia is really pretty and I like it better than Taya (which I pronounce TAH-ya) and Tea (which looks like tea, I mean you could spell it Téa she'd have a lot of explaining to do).I really like Teia and would love to meet one.

Not sure I realized last time that this was the real-deal! Congratulations!Teia looks really odd to me. Of the three options you mentioned, I prefer Taya. Teia has too many vowels in a row and I might not intuitively pronounce it the same as "Taya". Since Taya is so straight forward, I would wonder if the parents were going for a different pronunciation by spelling it Teia. TEE-uh or TIE-uh or something. I don't know.I suggested this last time, but I will do it again...How about Mattea with the nickname Tea?

I love the name, but sadly, in the US I think any spelling other than Taya will be mispronounced. Teia will still be pronounced Tee-ah. If you love this name, I would go with Taya. Or use Tea or Mattea and be prepared to educate, elucidate, repeat. It might be worth it--those who really matter to you and your daughter would get it, and that would be that. It is a beautiful name.

Teia is not really my style, but I wouldn't mind hearing it on someone else's child, if that makes sense.I certainly prefer this spelling to the other two, just because I think it could cause less confusion. Also, I think the three vowels together kind of looks pretty. I really like the spelling Thea, too, but I know many people might say Thay-ah.
