[Opinions] Desmond.
I don't think I have seen this name mentioned often, both in real life as well as on BtN. Given the love that names like Edmund (for men) and Rosamund (for women) receive around here - even the more obscure Faramund recently - I wonder why a similar name like Desmond apparently hasn't.How do you feel about Desmond, both for a child and a grown man? Do you have any positive or negative associations with it? Would you prefer it spelled Desmund instead? As for me, I have grown rather fond of Desmond over the years. When I was younger, I used to think it was a so-so name that didn't really stand out and seemed to be a name most seen on men in their 50s-60s, but thanks to the character Desmond Hume from "Lost", I slowly began to see the charm of it. I think it's a really affable name now, with the nickname Des being rather cute. Desmond is better than Edmund in that regard - since the obvious nickname for Desmond (Des) is infinitely better than the obvious nickname for Edmund (Ed or worse, Eddie). At least, in my opinion. ;)I don't think I would ever actually use Desmond (not as a first name, at least), since in my country, English names tend to get mangled quickly (making them often seem a bit trashy also) and so it's safer to instead opt for something that's a little bit closer to home. It's a shame, but at least I'll always have the middle name spot as an option. :)Anyway, I'm curious to hear your thoughts regarding Desmond. :)

Ah! Desmond is the name my husband and I have picked out for our future son.I knew a boy named Desmond growing up, and he was SUPER weird, and kind of mean, and he was the only Desmond I've ever met. Because of him, I never thought anything really positive about the name.Later, I began watching Lost as well, and hearing the name Desmond over and over again made me realize just how much I like the sound of the name. Not to mention the amazing namesake of Desmond Tutu...I love the name so much now, and it just feels like the perfect name for our first son. I love the nicknames Des and Desi. I also can see myself calling him Dewey or Dex once in a while, too.

I like Desmond. It's the only name with this sort of sound I like (ie, I dislike Edmund etc.) I started considering it after watching Lost, too. I like the nickname Des as well. Don't know if I'd ever use it, but I'd love to meet one.

I love Desmond. It's sooo handsome, uncommon but not unheard of and easy to pronounce. I would easily name my baby Desmond if my partner liked it. Don't spell it Desmund :(

I really like Desmond but not Edmund, Rosamund or Faramund. Desmond is on my top 25 and I usually go with the combo Desmond Archer.

I really like Desmond. It has a slightly rugged feel, yet it sounds classy as well. It works well for both children and adults. I haven't met anyone named Desmond, so it seems fresh to me.I'd stick with Desmond. Desmond looks better to me than Desmund does. That, and I'm used to seeing Desmond. I'd assume that most other people are as well. For that reason, I'd say that the majority of people would be apt to spell it Desmond.
