[Opinions] Roni and Ronnie (and some general stuff about nicknames)
I kind of like them as nicknames. I thought of Aaron nn Ron or Ronnie for a boy and Ronia nn Roni for a girl. I also kind of like Roni on its own. Opinions?I don't really care for Ronald or Veronica. Would you say the nickname Ronnie/Roni is common? Do you pronounce them differently and which do you prefer?Aaron nn Ron or Ronnie seems to be kind of unusual. People hardly ever seem to derive the nickname from the last syllable. I knew a Dan for years and thought it was short for Daniel. I just recently found out his name is Aidan and I thought that was kind of cool and unexpected.I also like Aaron nn Ari. Which do you prefer as a nickname, Ron, Ronnie or Ari?

I don't really like Ronnie on a boy (hate it on a girl), since I associate it with the douchebag idiot from Jersey Shore. It's kind of dated, and it doesn't really pop enough soundwise for me to like it despite the bad association. I think it's common enough. I've met one or two before. As for a female Roni, I have never met a Ronia nn Roni, but I have met two women with just the name Roni. I would automatically assume it's a Jewish girl because the name is quite common in Israel and very rarely used outside the Jewish community. It's cute in theory, but I always draw the association to Rice-a-Roni. It's absolutely pronounced differently than Ronnie. Ronnie has a short O and Roni has a long one.Ari is the best nickname you've got there for Aaron, but it doesn't really need one, I don't think. Ron is okay, but Ronnie from Aaron is unattractive and feels contrived. I'd say maybe Ronnie for Orlando...?

Oh, no. I don't care at all for Roni or Ronnie for a girl. I'm the opposite of you. I love Veronica, but the one thing that would keep me from using it is the possible nickname Ronnie.I wouldn't pronounce Roni and Ronnie differently. If I had to pick a spelling, I'd pick Roni since it looks less masculine. I wouldn't say it's common. I've never known a female Roni or Ronnie, and I've known just one male Ronnie--in his case it was a nickname for Ronald.I really don't like counter intuitive nicknames. I mean nicknames that don't reflect the way the full name is pronounced. The "ron" part of Aaron does not sound like the "Ron" part of Ronald, so I think it's silly to use Ron as a nickname for Aaron. Same with Dan for Aidan---the "dan" part of Aidan doesn't sound like Dan. Same reason I dislike Liam as a nickname for William.Of the three nicknames for Aaron, I would prefer Ari, but I don't see how or why Aaron needs a nickname. It's not long and it trips off the tongue.

"Listen honey, just like Ronnie sang..."Be my little baby...Aaron doesn't need a nn. Using Ron or Ronnie as its nn seems very forced and contrived. Ari at least seems a bit more natural. In fact I don't know any Aarons who go by any nns except the one who is called A.J.I've never encountered anybody named Roni so I don't know how to pronounce it, I guess the same as Ronnie.Ronnie is popular among guys over about forty here. Ron/Ronnie/Ronald just aren't used very much anymore.I graduated with a girl named Ronnetta. She didn't go by Ronnie, just her full name, but I guess Ronnie could have been a nn for that.I don't mind Ron on a man, it sounds friendly and dependable, but Ronnie sounds kind of redneck.

I also knew an Aaron who went by A.J., due to his middle name being John, and the Ronnie I knew was a redneck!
