[Opinions] Lyle on a girl
Hahahaha this came up in my auto-fill for my school email. Lyle Alyssa is the combo. HahahaOoh also this one: Shepard Stone Lastname. Wtf?Also someone at graduation was named Zebra. That was her first name. Actually I should have 1,000 names from graduation but I haven't brought up the booklet to the computer yet.OMG Also someone named Robert Edward Lee (Lastname). How embarrassing.

I could get used to Lyle and Shepard in time, but Zebra? Nah.I've heard of people being named Robert E. Lee before. It's...not my thing.

I'm pretty sure that Robert Edward Lee Ewell was the full name of the awful racist white trash attempted child murderer Bob Ewell in "To Kill a Mockingbird". Not my thing, either. I will refrain from going into detail.I don't like Lyle for a girl, nor do I like it for a boy. Both Lyle and Kyle sound extremely whiney to me. Can't stand either. Maybe I'm influenced by the fact that my husband knew a Kyle in college and really disliked him and stated so several times.I can't see either Shepard or Zebra as names.

Yeah I agree about Kyle and Lyle. I loathe Kyle with lots of fibers, but Lyle just passes the line enough to become outright comical. Do you hate Ryan too? Ugh, I can't stand long I's.

Lyle on a girl? I wouldn't do it.
Shepherd's not that appealing. Makes me think of a dog.
Zebra? Well... how about Bunny and Puppy Dog too? :-P ... and maybe Elephant, Lion and Giraffe. There are some boys in Japan named Tora (tiger). Not too sure what's so embarassing about Robert Edward Lee (ln)... Is it RELee that bad?
ETA: ok... reading the other post made sense of why Robert Edward Lee may be a problem... but only to those who know the character.

Nah, the character referred to below was named after Robert E. Lee, the confederate general. It's a pretty unsavory namesake, given, yanno, integration and all that. (I'm actually from a Lee County, named after him. Also, this is kind of funny: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._counties_named_after_prominent_Confederate_historical_figures )I actually like Zebra more than Bunny. I just read two books featuring characters named Bunny and I just can't get into it. It's just dry. Zebra I think has a super fun sound, is really memorable and spellable, and really distinctive. I could get into it if my partner really wanted a Zebra... but I did think it was funny enough to post about.
Like, I'll never forget this girl Zebra, and I've never met her.

My husband's nephew's baby son is named Shepard. At least I believe that is the spelling. This name has been roundly ridiculed in the family (behind the parents' backs, of course).

Robert Edward Lee (Lastname)...
Haven't heard of Senator Jeff Sessions? His actual full name is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III. Two Confederates in one name (Jefferson Davis and General Pierre Beauregard).
The others are worse...

That does it! If I ever have another grandson, I'm going to insist that his name be Ulysses Simpson Grant George Gordon Meade (whatever last name) and then have a VI tacked on just for the hell of it. I'd insist on Abraham Lincoln in there, but we already have an Abraham, named after Lincoln.

I don't understand what's embarassing about Robert Edward Lee...Lyle for a girl is not good. I don't like Lyle for a boy anyway, but it's worse on a girl! Shepard also seems silly because Shepherd as in the profession isn't spelled that way

Oh... I don't know who that is. US history is in no way my strong subject; I have trouble enough with UK history!
