[Opinions] Embry
What do you think of Embry for a boy? Do you prefer it on a girl? I've liked it for quite a few years and only found out recently (thanks, nameberry) that it is a name from Twilight. I have never read the books, is he a major character? I don't remember him from the movies (I only watched the first and parts of the most recent one, though). A good character? Do you think people would associate the name with him?Embry is a name I always forget about because it's not in the database.

Embry is a fairly common surname form the area where I grew up (east-coast Canada.)So, I guess, for a boy, it would be acceptable. I wouldn't like it for a girl. I haven't read the Twilight books, so, no opinion there.

The first thing I thought of was Embry-Riddle, the aeronautical university. It also reminds me of the word "embryo." Neither is that bad of an association, though. The name isn't one I would use myself mostly because the sound of it doesn't do much for me.I prefer it as a male name, but it sounds like names that are popular for girls these days, such as Avery, Aubrey, and of course, Emily and Emma. Consequently, a decent number of people in the U.S. might automatically think of a girl first if they aren't familiar with "Twilight." It would be less of an issue outside of the U.S. and Canada I would imagine, but I don't know that for sure.

I don't like it but when I do prefer it's usage... it should be male.

Sounds more like a boy name to me. I like Ember for a girl but not for a boy. Embry to me just sounds like a surname phonebook name - pretty much just trendy sounding. Like Aubrey or Bentley, not dramatic like Ember. I haven't read Twilight but I would not let associations with that bother me if I were writing a character and wanted to use Embry. I might skim the books to make sure my Embry character was different enough from the Twilight one, though, since you know that one exists.

I don't know anything about the Twilight character, but I don't think the connection should matter. The only names I'm willing to write off as hopelessly linked to Twilight are Cullen and Renesmee, and, frankly, no one should want to use those anyway. Most of the names she used are too ordinary and too well used to scream Twi-hard. I've only seen Embry on girls, and I don't like it for a boy.

Boy!I love Embry for a boy (before twilight). I think its a cool mysterious sounding name.. but also very sweet!

It's one of Jacob's friends, so he's some minor werewolf character. He's introduced at the same time as a character named Quil and it's mentioned that they both have odd names (meanwhile, Renesmee is totally not weird at all thanks). The character is supposedly named after a soap opera star. I guess it's okay. I used to like it more.

hahaha Renesmee. I still can't believe people are using it. I watched parts of the most recent movie and laughed so hard when she suggested the name, even though I had known about it. Hearing it said out loud was really funny to me for some reason.

I can't comment how big of a character he is in Twilight, sorry.I do really like the name in theory but it always reminds me of an embryo and I would never be able to separate that.
