[Opinions] Ruth, Dorothy, Shirley and Luana (more)
If you had to choose, which one and why? Could you rank/rate them or comment on them? They've all really grown on me.-Which one do you think is the most/least dated?
-Which one is most/least likely to make a comeback?
Do you think it would be mean to give a child a dated first and middle name? I kind of like Shirley Dorothy as a combo. I also like Luana Dorothy and Dorothy Luana. Or is it not going to matter because in 20-30 years most kids will have 30s/40s names anyway? I guess in the 70s or 80s Lily Rose or Ava Lucy would have sounded dated and horrible to most people. How many Luanas, Ruths, Dorothys and Shirleys have you met? Any younger ones?

I wouldn't be surprised if 30s/40s names came back in 10 years so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm partial to Geraldine which re-entered the top 1000 last year. I also really love Ramona and Marilyn. I don't know if Ramona is too closely associated with the 30's/40's but that is when the name peaked (I think it peaked in the 200's off the top of my head), and I see that name becoming more popular than ever. I think I like Dorothy the best. I'm not a huge fan of Shirley. I'm on the fence with Luana, and never even realized it was a 30's/40's name. I think Ruth and Dorothy will come back first so the safest combo for a baby born now would probably be Ruth Dorothy. I prefer Dorothy over Ruth though and if you used Dorothy Ruth or even Dorothy Luana, I bet you would get respect for being ahead of the trends. Dorothy with nicknames Dot or Dotty is really sweet. Dorothy Shirley is too repetitive for my tastes.

Least dated - Luana
Most dated - ShirleyLeast likely to make a comeback - Shirley
Most likely to make a comeback - DorothyI hate Shirley and Dorothy - though I have more respect for Dorothy because it seems less dated and has lots of cute NNs.Ruth and Luana are nice. Funny actually that Luana's been on my mind lately :) I feel like "L" names on girls are popular right now and "Lu" names in particular have an "of the moment" vibe. And then "-ana" names are also quite popular - so I think a Luana would get along just fine these days and that something like Dorothy Luana doesn't sound overly dated. Ruth is retro-chic and both Ru and Ruthie are adorable as NNs

Ugh, they're all completely not my style, unfortunately. But:- Which one do you think is the least dated? Luana, seems pretty obvious to me.- Which one is least likely to make a comeback? Shirley is my first choice, Dorothy comes second.

I've only met 1 Dorothy, and she's a cousin of my younger cousins. Dorothy Rose would be an excellent combo, and so would Shirley Ava.

Dorothy.I would call her Dottie. My husband's grandmother was Dottie, and she was a feisty old lady. She died last year.I'd rank the others- from favorite to least favorite- Ruth, Luana, and Shirley.I'm not sure which will most likely make a comeback because I'm bad at predicting those things. I'll say Dorothy, because it lends itself to NN's, and it's sweet and feminine. No, I don't think it's mean to give your kid a dated name. As I've mentioned before, my nieces are Sally Jean and Judith (Judy) Claire. Both dated combos, but they work. Those names suit those kids very well.Anyway, I'd rather be Ruth than yet another Katelynn or Isabella.
