Help[Opinions] Margaret Nicknames
Found out this morning that baby is a girl (yay!!!), and we still feel like Margaret is what we'll name her.
I wouldn't always use a nickname, nor do I really intend to have one nickname set before meeting her. I know from experience that nicknames can just naturally happen. However, I'd like to have an idea of some that my husband and I both agree on using. If it were up to me I think I'd go with Margie, but he's not terribly keen on that.
So, these are all the possible nicknames I've come up with so far and want to know if anyone has any to add. No Peggy (my mom's name), Maggie (everyone expects it), or Daisy (think it's too much of a stretch).

I know there's also mar-ghee, but I'm not sure I like that or how practical it is. How would you spell it? Marghee? Bleh.

Congratulations! I've been wondering how things are progressing with your bundle-to-be, so thanks for the update. :)
From your list, I best like Greta, Meg, Margo and Maisie as "recognized" nicknames. I also really like Mae. While not "intuitive" as a nickname for Margaret, Mae strikes me as very appropriate in "feel".
The only other ideas coming to me are Pearl, Ettie and "M".

If I couldn't use Maggie (which I used to dislike but is growing on me), then I'd use Maisie or Meg /Meggie.
I like Maisie best, although I tend to think of it as a name in its own right.
I seriously could not imagine anyone using Madge. Very unattracive in my opinion! The others are ok, not my style though.

Haha, you watched The Tudors, right? There's an episode where Henry is with a character named Madge and he says it really funny, so that's kind of a joke Nick and I have with it. I think it's really unattractive too!

I'd go with Mae, Maisie or Greta. Actually, probably Greta. It's really starting to grow on me. As for Marghee I'm not sure that really makes sense unless she's Marguerite. Maybe Marjie?

My favorite nicknames for it are Meg, Mae/May, Mattie, and Megsie/Megsy.

Mattie is an interesting suggestion! I don't think I'd consider it though because of all the Madisons and Madelines who go by Maddie, and they'd sound the same here.

I like Margo, Meg, and Greta, but if I could only choose one I'd go with Margo. Margo is intelligent, crisp, and it has a certain style to it. It's a great name, and you don't hear it that often, so she'd probably be the only Margo in her class.
This one might be a bit of a stretch, but what about Marnie? Could that work?

I agree about Margo, that one is definitely a front runner too. My husband wasn't so sure about it, but he says he mostly would want to wait and see which one seemed to fit her best. Which I agree with, I'd just like to know which ones he likes first too!
I love Marnie! I actually have thought about that as a nickname but wasn't sure it would make much sense. I read a book called Marnie (unrelated to the Hitchcock film) when I was in high school that I liked a lot. Thanks for reminding me though, I'll keep it in mind in case it fits!

Yay :) I kind of knew you were going to have a Margaret someday! The name is perfect.
The ones I like:
Maisie - I think it's really sweet and friendly. If I had to pick a nickname for Margaret, I would use Maisie. I also like Maisie on its own.
Mae - I love this, but I much prefer it on its own. I consider them to be so different that you could even have a Margaret and a Mae in the same sibset. I know a girl named Mae Margaret, by the way.
Mamie - it's okay. I don't really like it because it makes me think of the words 'mama' and 'mommy' for some reason.

Midge - it just makes me think of 'midget' :/

Meg or Greta, cos I don't like to go too far away from the sounds of the original (but I don't like Margie). But if I was going to use Greta, I'd use it as a full name. It's one of my favourites! :)
Gretchen would be cool as a nn too, I think. That's what Margarethe in Goethe's Faust used.

I love Gretchen and for the longest time I thought that was the nickname we'd use. Still a possibility, and I actually forgot to put it in the list in my post! But I have a good friend named Gretchen, so I associate it with her so not sure I could use it for my own kid.

Greta is my favorite but I'm almost hesitant to vote that way because I want to keep Greta for myself! lol
I've also been SERIOUSLY loving Meg lately so that would be my second(first) pick, even though I really love Margo, Mae and Maisie also.
If you wanted to use Daisy at all I think Maisie--->Daisy would be easy enough to do in a casual setting

I've been really into Greta lately, I think it is fab. Spunky, unexpected, approachable, intuitive to the full name, and it will age well as it sounds sweet on a small child but not immature on an adult.
I think Madge and Midge are terribly unattractive.
Mae is cute but I see it as a name in its own right rather than a nickname. Ditto Margo.
I'm not Meg's biggest fan but I know a couple IRL and it works well IMO. It ages well and is very friendly. I know a 20 year old Meggie and I think it sounds ridiculous. Possibly could be confusing at family gatherings having a Peggy and Meggie around?
Maisie is adorable. If it isn't going to be an all the time nickname, I think it is a lovely option.
