[Opinions] Phoebe & Romeo
I keep coming across Phoebe, and can't decide whether or not I like it. I like the look of it and I think I like the sound - what are your opinions of it?Also, what are your honest opinions of Romeo?
I really like the sound of Romeo, and don't mind the Beckham link - but I do mind the Romeo & Juliet link (I think) and I imagine he would be picked on at school, especially when finding a girlfriend!

I like Phoebe. It's a sweet name, yet it isn't too cutesy. I also like its mythological background as well as its meaning.Romeo is hard for me to take seriously. Aside from the Romeo and Juliet association, I also think of it as a pet's name. I've encountered it as a pet's name more than once. One time, I met an old smelly dog by the name of Romeo. Despite his odor problem, he was cute and a good-natured animal, but it's hard for me to get the dog image out of my head. I'd save Romeo for pets and use Roman, which I really like, for a person instead.

Apparently my Dad used to think Phoebe was pronounced "FOBE", so that kind of puts me off. I don't like the way it's pronounced differently to the way it's spelled.
I like the sound of it though, and at least the pronounciation/spelling is pretty common, so people won't get it wrong (unless it's my Dad!).I like the sound of Romeo but I don't really think it's useable. It's weird, because I think Juliet would be fine! Maybe because Romeo is used more often, like to tease a kid with a crush, whereas Juliet wouldn't be.

I agree with you on Romeo and Juliet. I've met a few people named Juliet, and as far as I know, they didn't have problems because of their name. Juliet is close enough to Julie, Julia, and other related names and is used regularly enough that it doesn't seem out of the norm. Romeo, on the other hand, is more distinct. I once met a man named Romeo who was from the Philippines. I don't know if he was teased because of his name, but coming from another culture, maybe not. I haven't met any other people named Romeo. The rest have all been pets.

That's the main issue I'm having with it!
