Help[Opinions] Joachim
Any feelings anyone would like to share regarding this name? I am coming around to it, though, I pronounce it the German way.

Love it. I'm not sure of the German pronunication - I pronounce it jo-a-kim. It's very much a favorite.

I just heard the German pronunication (thanks to Satu's fabulous site: http://www.nordicnames.de/Aussprache.html#J) and while I like it, it's unlikely I could get people around here to pronounce it that way.

Hey, good site! I was able to hear the authentic pronounciation of my daughter's fiance's name, he's German. (Well, Canadian, but born in Germany.)

Joachim sounds like a guy who is determined and kind of a badass. If he were a character in a story, he wouldn't quite be the hero, but as "the lancer" he would accomplish a lot.
I can see Joachim being appropriate for a wide age-range: from confident teenager to tough old guy.
I agree that the German pronunciation is best.

I also pronounce it the German way, and I like it a lot. I picture an Joachim as someone intense and passionate, maybe a little prickly and hard to connect with, but not unkind.
The English pronunciation bothers me enough that I wouldn't personally use Joachim as anything other than a middle name (plus, okay, I have a Noah, and Noah + Joa= namefail), but I have yet to make it work in any combo. I'm stuck admiring it from afar.

I've always liked Joachim (German pronunciation). It's been used by several European royal families, which is where I first heard it.

I like both Joachim and Joakim (which is the most common spelling here). If I had been a boy, I would have been named either Fredrik or Joakim.
I think Joachim, with this spelling, looks ore sweet and it sounds like a curious little guy that would be fun to be around. But it also sounds nice on a grown up.

Anyway, I've always really like Joachim and variants. I also pronounce it the German way. The only one I've ever known in real life was a guy I went to college with, and that's how he pronounced it so it's stuck. It also made it seem like a much more approachable, usable name to me too. I think it's very warm and friendly.
