Help[Opinions] Nicknames for Katharine
Kate, Katie, and Kathy are out of the question.
I'm thinking of:

Kay
Kat
Kitty

I don't think Katharine should even have a nn maybe Kate or Katie but you don't like those names. :P

Traditionally in Britain, Kath is the working-class nickname and Kitty as the aristocratic one. Because of that, Kitty sounds a bit affected to me. Katy is the most natural. You could consider ...

Eh ... That's all I've got lol. It's been so widely used for so long, that I think Katherine's had every plausible nn squeezed out of it already!
All the people I know who have nicknames, acquired them as teens and students from friends. Their parents wouldn't have chosen them in a million years, and hate them, probably. So I wouldn't get too set on any nickname. The chances of the child actually using it past a certain stage aren't great. The chances of liking the nickname they do use are even less, which is one argument for using a name people won't shorten. (That's what puts me off Katerina. I love it, but not Kat.)

I know it's a stretch but what about Wren? Kath-wren is basically how it's pronounced :) Also, Katya is a good one.

Kathy is American's "Kitty"
Except I tend to see a middle-aged woman, not an old woman. It's nice, but it's common, and carries a certain perception that I don't think will be overlooked. My niece has a "Vicky" in her class...and I just cannot see that as a young girl's name. I have no problem with names of the elderly - but middle-aged names.. then I have a problem.

I think Kit-Kat is cute, but to be used only by close family and friends. In the movie "Mystic Pizza", one character is named Kat(for Katherine), and at one point one of her friends calls her "Kitty-Kat-Kat".

Kit — ok, i've met a very nice Kit, but I still don't like the name.
Kay — Sorry, but i cannot think of Kay as a nn for a child. All the people who are named Kay that i know are adults.
