Help[Opinions] What are your favorite Hawaiian names?
and could you comment on mine, please? I will comment on yours as well. Try to comment on as many names as you can (also the ones the other users will post in response).
Do you think it's silly to give a Hawaiian name to a pale, blonde or blue eyed child, for example? Or to use one even though you don't have a special connection (relatives or something) in Hawaii? I've been there and loved it but don't have relatives there or anything. I do love many Hawaiian names, though. I guess many people use Hebrew names or French names without having any connection to the country/culture so I think it would be fine but I wonder what other people's opinions are.

I'm very picky with boys names and only like four in total at the moment and I haven't found a Hawaiian one I like except for Keanu which I guess is pretty much unusable because it's so strongly associated with the actor.
Oh and if you know anything about Hawaiian names, do you know whether some of them are dated or seen as old fashioned? I saw that Lani was only in the top 100 in the 60s and 70s.

My cousin's daughter is Malia- Hawaiian for Maria, but his dad is from Hawaii, and is 1/4 Hawaiian (dad is 1/2 Hawaiian and 1/2 Portuguese/ Azorean), so it isn't that big of a surprise for him to use it.
Leilani Neumann is infamous as the mother in a faith healing case that was in the news. You might have seen it online, but I think only people in this area would remember it. She and her husband were charged with their daughter's death because they never took her to a hospital/ doctor for help. I don't think she had any Hawaiian blood.

I'm not exactly familiar with Hawaiian names, but of the few that I know I like
Lilinoe, Haukea and Malie. I'm warming up to Kai, and I think Kaleo, Makaio and Iolana are interesting.
I just had a look at the user submitted names. If they really are Hawaiian names, I think I also like Olina, Nanea and Paikea. So, are they Hawaiian? ;-)

I'm fairly sure Keilani is used. I've seen it used once... I think. Haha. I guess that's not the most reliable backing.
I like Leilani, but that's getting kind of trendy, isn't it? I feel like I've seen it a few times. I wish I knew more about which ones were considered dated in Hawai'i, but I don't.
