I think I like KEER-stin better. I know a few Kirstens, and they always use that pronunciation. I think KUR-stin sounds too much like Thurston and therefore more masculine.

In German it is pronounced KIHR-sten. Not KURR-sten, it's kind of like KEER-sten but shorter. Hard to explain. Anyway, my favorite is KEER-sten followed by KIHR-sten, then KUR-sten. I don't like KUR-sten much at all. I do however think that most people in the US would say KUR-sten because I know a Kirsten (KEER-sten) who says she always has to correct people.
