I plan on naming a son of mine John. It was my father's name, and I find it classic, strong, friendly, and humble. If it's really that boring to you, you have about a zillion international nicknames to use; for instance, I'd use Vanya, short for Ivan (Russian form of John).

I don't hate Mary, but I don't love it. I'm Jewish, so maybe I just can't really get the appeal...? It's a nice name, but nothing special. I know a Mary-Lloyd, though...
