ROM-OH-LA. I know a really old woman (early 90s) named Romola. She's from Italy and that's how her family says it.

I think it's a lovely name - really striking and interesting and pretty. I'd be delighted to see a little one. I'd pronounce it ROM ə lə, like Pamela.

I pronounce it ROM-ə-lə (short "o" sound). Romola Garai pronounces her name that way.The Italian pronunciation is RO-mo-lah (long "o" sound). Now that I think about it, I pronounce it both ways pretty equally.

The Italian pronunciation is roh-MOH-lah. Not a single long O sound of the type found in English. The accent is on the penultimate syllable in Italian.

I was just contemplating a post about Romola! I adore the name -- it combines richness, sophistication, strength, and charm so seamlessly and unusually. I pronounce it "ROM-uh-la."

Romola looks really cool. I've never heard of it before. I would guess to pronounce it ROME-uh-luh (close to Pamela). But I'd like it very much if it were pronounced ruh-MOL-uh. Either way a little Romy would be awesome!
