[Opinions] Raymond
Warm me up to this name. It is the only one that Beau has actively mentioned liking. Not that we're procreating, but, you know, it's a good warm-up in openmindedness.
Aspects I am already warm to:
-Ray
-It's kind of German
Aspects I am not warm to:
-Sounds gross

lol I don't like it either, not sure why. Ray is cool, Raymond has ginger sideburns and shiny old-man-pants and pipe-tobacco teeth, um probs not helping here. I guess there's Raymond Chandler - maybe that could give it a noirish edge?
I like this name, it's a good strong name with a great meaning.
The name of one of my favorite writers (Raymond E. Feist)
Doesn't sound gross to me.

Ray (not a nickname) and Raymond are both family names for me. I like plain Ray a lot better than Raymond. I've never liked Raymond much, but I'm not sure why.
I actually really like this name. I prefer the spelling Raymund and ultimately I prefer Raymundo - though it is a little much to be used realistically I think. Points I like about it is the potential for the nickname Ray - I really like this name! - also it's quite unusual now with a good aura of vintage to it. It doesn't sound gross, if you keep repeating it I'm sure it'll grow on you! :)
The Reimer in my family when he moved to the US from the border between the Netherlands and Germany changed his name to Raymond. But because of the Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond I really dislike this name and Ray. Plus Raymond in my family and his son Raymond unfortunately had a drinking problem. It makes me sad to think of the name Raymond. Reimer was a very long held family name in my family and died when they moved to the US. Raymond as a family name died with my great grandma Ella's brother Raymond who died very young and tragically because of his alcoholism. So I would personally use Reimer but not Raymond.
Though I did recently meet a very nice Raymond. He is one of the guys I've seen twice now to ultrasound the blood clot in my leg and he is Filipino. He is my favorite person to talk when I have my blood clot checked because he is friendly, funny and fun to talk to. Though I also like this other lady who was the same age as myself.
I don't think the name Raymond sounds ugly at all, I just associate it with many negative things. You should try to look up famous Raymond's who would be positive associations. I wonder if you actually think the name is ugly or if you just don't like people you know of associated with the name? If you thought of this name in a positive light you might start to like this name.
I don't know how you feel about Rosamond / Rosamund but it reminds me of it. I personally like the name Rosamond / Rosamund.

Doesn't sound gross to me. I don't get that.
Maybe this will help:
OTHER LANGUAGES: Raginmund, Raimund (Ancient Germanic), Erramun (Basque), Ramon (Catalan), Raimo, Reima (Finnish), Raimund, Reimund (German), Réamann, Redmond, Redmund (Irish), Raimondo (Italian), Raimonds (Latvian), Remao, Mao (Limburgish), Raimondas (Lithuanian), Rajmund (Polish), Raimundo (Portuguese), Raymundo (Portuguese (Brazilian)), Rajmund (Slovene), Raimundo, Ramón, Raymundo (Spanish)
People all over the world have liked it so much, they've put it in their own languages. How cool is that.

Maybe once you get to know a good Raymond(such as a baby) you'll probably mean more partial to it.
But you're right to not want to like a name that sounds gross to you. If my SO told me he really liked like "Oscar" or "Felix" I'd be torn as well.

Sorry, but I can't warm you up to Raymond. I hate this name. Get him to like something else.
Hahaha I don't think it sounds gross but I'm not a huge fan of the -mond part either. I do however really like Ray, for both genders it makes me think of rays of sun. Well, you could always call him Ray! And the full name is underused and classic. I think it's pretty neat. Oh and the meaning is nice.
