I am loving this name right now after seeing it in a TV show but I can't quite explain why.Am I the only Fidelma lover out there, or are there others? :)

I was watching a television show this morning with a character named Fidelma on it. I'd never really heard the name said aloud before and I've decided while it's not something I'd use it is lovely.

You are definitely not alone. I grew up hearing about friends / distant relatives of my mother's family, Fidelma and Eithne (which they pronounced as "ET-nuh"). I never met them so they're a bit of a mystery to me. I love both names, especially Fidelma. It reminds me of graceful, soaring Fidelia (faithful) with a sensible-shoes twist to it, the "-ma" ending. Plus, I love the nn Del.

I want to like it. I really, really do. I love that it's Irish, and I love that St. Fidelma was a follower of St. Patrick. But I don't.I can't imagine this on a little girl. It reminds me of my terrible step-great-grandmother (ha) and it's just too much. Maybe it will grow on me if I meet a sweet, little Fidelma! What sort of NN's do you think would work for it?

I was thinking Dell.

I like Dell!I think knowing that, I could warm to Fidelma. It's a great nickname, and I think putting emphasis on that syllable has made me think about it a little more. I'm not as opposed as I was earlier. :)

It's rather nice. I like Feidlimid, so then I have to say I like Fidelma too. It's definitely interesting!

I also love Fidelma! Its clunky charm is undeniable.
