[Opinions] Apollina, Amandine, Freda, Vega, Vigga & other Swiss sightings
Boof goes to a bilingual daycare here, and when I was picking her up yesterday I got a chance to check out some of her classmates names. All were printed over their jackets so spellings are definite but I don't know all the pronounciations or siblings. Kids are all nationalities- mainly Swiss and English.Amandine
Apollina
Arthur ( French prn.)
Charlotte
Chiara
Clara
Eloise "Elsie"
Etienne
Finian
Freda
Junis (in German j is usually y)
Leif
Louis (French prn.)
Stella (sisters Giulia & Livia)
Vega
Vigga (based on jacket this is a girl)
ZoeAnd a sibset who has now left, French father & American mother have Virginie (French prn.) and Evelyne.WDYT? Some of them are not your usual sightings, hey?

FredaYou have just warmed my heart. Freda was my great-aunt (short for Frederica) and my Aunt Freda is named after her. It's very dear to my heart. I don't talk about it a lot because it's not everyone's cup of tea, even here at BtN. I'm especially pleased with the spelling. Usually if I see it at all it's Frieda, and occasionally Frida. Those spellings are nice too and I'll take her just about any way she comes. But seeing "Freda" on your list has really brightened my morning. Thank you.Others I love:Amandine, Arthur (a new love for me), Charlotte, Chiara, Eloise (what a neat idea, using darling Elsie for the nn!), Leif, Louis, Stella, Giulia, Livia, and Zoe. Virginie and Evelyne are tres chic. :-)

Freda was my mother's name, (that spelling), so understandably, I love it.She was rarely nick-named, Freda being a short name, though some of her sisters occasionally called her Fee.

Aw. Freda, nn Fee, is darling. :-)My Aunt Freda was a 60s wild child which was a big no-no in my family. But I secretly admired her. I associated Freda with freedom. I've toyed with the idea of Freedom, nn Freda.

I love Freda too, you're not alone! My favourite spelling is Freida, though, even though I know it's not technically right.

I love Vega. It's been a favorite of mine for ages. (I'm assuming this was a girl.)I'm guessing Vigga is a feminine form of Viggo?Livia and Apollina are nice, too. Amandine is pretty if pronounced the French way.

Vega wasn't there that day so no jacket to guess from, so I'm not sure wether boy/girl. I'll keep an eye out, see of I can find out for sure.

Given that gender bending with names is rare among parents here (most of the ones who do it are American or Aussie) and little Etienne probably has at least one French/Swiss-French parent, I'd be willing to bet he was a boy. He didn't have a jacket up so I couldn't guess based on that.
