[Opinions] Janson/Jansen
We are thinking of naming our son Janson. I know a boy and have heard of another named Jansen, and have heard of 2 girls named Jansen. This name isn't even on the top 1000 on the ss list, so I guess it isnt established for either sex. Please respond as to whether you think its a boy or girl name, and which spelling you like better (Janson or Jansen). We like the -son spelling as I think it is more masculine, and my dh is named Jason. Sister's name is Piper Elizabeth, and the combo we are considering is Janson Everett. Amber Nicole

Janson/Jansen means JohnsonJanson is a Swedish surname (usually spelt Jansson). I know many people with this surname. Jan is a Swedish form of Johannes/John. Jensen is a Danish surname, also very common in Denmark. Jens is the Danish form of Johannes/John. To me, both names sound very strange as fn. But since both the "son" in Janson and the "sen" in Jensen mean "son", I find them both more suitable for a boy.I second the suggestion of using Jonas as a way to honor your dh.Or, instead of a name meaning "Johnson", why not John or a form of John, like Jack, Ian, Sean, Evan, Ivan, Johan etc?I think Everett (nn Rett?) would be a great fn too."But it’s all right now.

My moms maiden name is Johnston, so this could be a way to honor my family. Thanks for the other suggestions, but we will probably go with Janson. Thanks!Amber Nicole

Well, I like Jan for a man. Janson is too lastnamesque for my taste. Everett is a nice middle name.

I don't care for it for either gender, it's just too surname-y imo. To honor your dh, what about Jonas, an anagram of Jason?

There is a Jensen Ackles who is an actor...? I've heard Jensen plenty of times but never Janson. I think Janson is too close to Jan, which I see as a girly name (though I have heard it on boys, it always confused me at first).Though, I suppose with Jensen, a nn might be 'Jen' which is funny as well. : I dunno.
