Well, spoken by native Scandinavians and written with the slash through the "o" it is pronounced like SIR-en or like one syllable SIRn...here is where you can hear it being pronounced: http://www.forvo.com/search/S%C3%B8ren/no/

I like it a lot with the ø and the Scandinavian pronunciation, but it just sounds wrong to me pronounced SORE-en.
