Maybe. It's decent and sensible and has nn possibilities of various styles (though I wouldn't recommend one use Fanny in this day and age)... and has potential to go either way gender-wise if the spelling is adjusted... could potentially be hipster maybe?
My fave nn for this one is Frankie... yes, on a girl.
I'd be ok w/ it making a comeback into the "names you encounter now and then on a young person" category, but hopefully not as overdone as Sophia. I'm SO tired of people naming their babies Sophia.

Frances has been one of my favorite female names for many years! It's staid yet not invulnerable to flights of whimsy, demure yet charged with a brazen flare, and beautifully versatile. As much as I adore it, I hope it isn't poised for a tremendous comeback.

Yes!!!
I've always like Frances because it is a family name for me and wouldn't mind using it as a middle name. But recently I met a young lady who really changed the image of the name for me - she's African-American, about 19 years old, sweet, friendly, encouraging and very cute. I've also met a pretty college student named Susan who has a younger sister named Frances and another red-haired friend who gets called Frances by her family quite a bit because it's one of her two middle names and honors her grandfather's sister. I've found myself falling for this name and what's more my sister who prefers more trendy names likes Frances a lot lately too! It's definitely time for this charming old-fashioned name to have a comeback!

A few years ago, Frances was my favourite name for a girl! I really like it today and would like to meat a little Frances. :)

Definitely. It's a lovely classic name, and ripe for revival, fitting in well with today's trends.

Yes! I really like it, always have. I like it more for a boy (spelled Francis then of course), but like it a lot for a girl too. It's very upbeat and intelligent and non-frilly.

I think so. It seems to fit in with some of the older-name revival that's happening, and has the fairly sweet/soft sound that is popular right now. I do like it, so it's not something I would object to happening. :)

I hope it won't make a comeback. I always found it ugly and even though I really tried to like it I couldn't warm up to it at all. I think the sound of it is really masculine. I know that Francis is masculine and spelling it Frances doesn't make it any more feminine to me. It neither looks nor sounds like a girls name to me.I first encountered it on the cover of a Frances Hodgson Burnett book, one of my favorite authors, when I was about six years old and I thought it was written by a male author because the name sounded so unfeminine to me. I only realized it was feminine when I met a Frances in junior high who was a real pain in the butt and terrorized younger kids so that didn't help either.Trying to be a bit more positive, people here always complain about how boys names go over to the girls, Frances is one I'd gladly hand over to the boys. Not that I find it attractive on a boy, but it does make a better boys name.I do find the nickname Fanny kind of cute (it is popular in France) because I can separate it from the slang terms but of course I'd never use it. I strongly dislike Fran but Frannie isn't bad as a nickname. If I had to use a similar name it would definitely be Francesca which I find appealing.

YesDefinitely. I love the restrained calm of Frances. She is so together. And Francis for a boy is so distinguished. I love them both.Just for fun, have you thought about any middle names?

I think so. It's spunky, it's intelligent, it's charming, why not?
