I can't see them working as a subset. Leigh's too modern in comparison to the old fashioned Mabel.

I used to love Mabel, but my dad kept saying it was a cow's name. Darn him. I still want to like it though. :)

Leigh is fine, but I don't tend toward one-syllable first names.

I love Leigh for a girl, but I would like it more of a nickname because I don't usually go for one syllable first names, I love Ashleigh nn Leigh but it's "trendy" and therefore disliked. :(
Mabel I think looks a lot more old-ladyish and dated compared to Leigh, however Maybelle has spunk to it and looks as modern as Leigh. I also like Maybella a little better.

I like Mabel. Leigh is not really my style. The fact that there are so many trendy makes with Leigh as a second syllable (Brynleigh, Hadleigh etc.) Puts me off.

I don't think they really work as a sibset because Mabel is quite old fashioned and charming, whereas Leigh is a lot more modern.

Leigh's nice enough as a fn... a change from some of the current trends.
Mabel still feels quite old ladyish to me, but is somewhat pleasant at least. I prefer the more modern-sounding version of the name a friend of mine has- Mavelle... Same meaning, but slightly less old lady-ish, while still something she could grow into. Could also try sticking Mabel in the mn position.
They could work as a sibset.

I know a wonderful Mabel Leigh who goes by Leigh! Both are family names.

I don't like them for sisters names, as they seem mis-matched to me. I think Mabel is adorable and agree it has a sweet quirky charm to it. Leigh I don't mind, but I personally wouldn't use it. I also prefer the spelling Lee and like it more for a mn. Combo ideas would be:

I think all of the names I used as mn's for Mabel would work as sibling names to Mabel too.

I love them both. I love Leigh for its simplicity and understated beauty, and I love Mabel for its quirkiness and ugly-duckling charm.
