I don't know if Rei is used in Chinese or not. It is definitely in use as a Japanese male and female name.

There are many kanji with this pronunciation, including:

礼 "thanks, favor; ceremony"
玲 "sound of jewels"
怜 "wise"
麗 "beautiful"
恋 "love"
鈴 "bell"

I think its the fourth kanji; 麗 which means beautiful
