Is there any hope for this name?

I saw it the other day as the name of one of the people behind Scotland's "Shetland ponies in sweaters" travel advertisement and thought that was just the most perfect thing. Ponies, sweaters, Flossie, yes.

Flossie is the name of my SIL's frou-frou little dog and I'm afraid I don't find it dignified enough for a human.

Aww it's sooo cute! It would have to be a nickname though, because an adult professional called Flossie might be a bit strange. I like it as a nickname for Florence. I also like Florrie.

I doubt it. I only think of floss! Also the wife of the first president of my university was named Flossie, so there's a Flossie's Café on campus. Makes me think of that too. :)

I looooooove Flossie! .... For a dog. Like I have serious serious hopes to use this on a female dog someday, probably a border collie mix.

I don't dislike it for a human but it does feel sort of flimsy and antiquated. It's lacking any sort of seriousness, which might make me resent it as my name

No, I don't think so. Flossie combines the stereotypical Mammy-nness of Hattie with the bovinity of Bessie.

Bobbsey twins!

The Bobbsey Twins were some of my favourite books as a kid. It's a series of novels with two sets of twins as siblings: Bert and Nan, Freddie and Flossie. Because of that alone, I'd love to hear the name Flossie!! It's childish look and sound make me feel like it would need to be a nickname though. Florence nn Flossie?

Yeah, it's pretty childish. I think that's part of the charm for me, but I agree that it would probably need a formal name to fall back on I GUESS harumph.

Florence nn Flossie I think is the traditional useage but I already have a great-Aunt Florence... maybe Frances-Louise nn Flossie? Too contrived?
