I prefer it on a boy, but I like it on both. I find the sound appealing and spunky.

I agree with you on Arden. I prefer it for a boy, but think it could work on a girl. I don't think it needs a nickname, nor lends itself easily to one.
As for Afton, I also like it, but only for a girl. I think it sounds softer.

Not sure which gender you intend for Afton but, for a boy, you've got "Ton" right there, as in "that boy's got a ton of charm", etc. :)
