I associate it with Elizabeth Arden cosmetics, so I think of it as feminine. I can't say I like it much, even though the similar Ardent is one of my GP word names(for a boy).
Besides Ardie, the only one I can think of is Deni/Denny. I don't think it needs a nickname at all.
