[Opinions] local obituaries
I saw obituaries for a man named Junior John (his father's fn was Walter) and Myrtis (f) this week. I just had to stare at Myrtis, since it's so unusual. Maybe it's a smush or Myrtle and Curtis?

Huh. I like Myrtle as a middle name but Myrtis is rather strange. There's a contributor who posts that it's Greek but doesn't mention a meaning.
Myrtis! It was barely used at all compared to Myrtle, but it did get used a bit. I noticed that name at some point when I was looking at popular names from ~100 years ago. Myrtis and Myrtice too - they were given to hundreds of girls/year, for a while. It does seem like it was just a trendy spinoff/smush. -is and -ice endings seemed to be pretty fashionable. They did a fair amount of creative naming back then, it seems like! Not like now, but still. Leota was used even more than Myrtis. Whatever the heck that is.
Leota! There was a girl named that in the neighbourhood where I grew up.A bit older than I was, so I didn't know her well, tall gangly blonde girl.A fast runner, which impressed me, still does.
